'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range strike from distance, and Cameron Burgess promptly converted the rebound before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result capped an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. Amid the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result booked a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that far out," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a tough attitude and focus just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has swiftly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a spell at lower division Salford City, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his eye for a killer pass.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's only game for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The week before, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged his mid-teens? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I knew I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
